It was a very hot August evening when I first went to Prebendal Manor to see Mrs Jane Baile about making a small medieval garden to be in keeping with the house. Prebendal Manor is the oldest continually inhabited house in Northamptonshire and the twentyfifth oldest in England.
There had been a long heatwave, so the ground was parched. There was little that could be described as a garden. I had wanted to make a medieval garden in a suitable setting. We soon made a deal.
